Discover Reykjavík
Coloring Book & Travel Guide for Kids and Teens

28. February 2025

Iceland has been my passion for years, and on my blog, I love sharing everything that makes this incredible country so special: tips, stories, and the little secrets that give Iceland its unique charm. But for 2025, I wanted to try something new—something designed specifically for young explorers. And this time, I didn’t want it to be just digital. I wanted to create something tangible, something kids could hold in their hands and take with them on their journey.

And that’s how my first book came to life:
"Reykjavík – Coloring Book & Travel Guide for Kids and Teens."

But don’t worry—this isn’t just another travel guide packed with dry facts and a few nice pictures. No, it’s a mix of adventure, fun, and creativity—a book that sparks curiosity and invites kids to discover Reykjavík in a playful way.

Traveling with Kids? I’ve Been There!

Some kids love exploring cities, while others find it completely boring. I happen to have two of the latter! While I was eager to visit every landmark and soak up the atmosphere, my kids would tap out after the third stop. Excitement quickly turned into the usual complaints: "I'm bored!" "I'm hungry!" "How much longer?" These became the unofficial soundtrack of the day.

An Unforgettable Moment in Tuscany

One moment I’ll never forget: We were in Tuscany, and I had my heart set on visiting yet another beautiful medieval town. But my two teenagers had reached their sightseeing limit. When I tried to convince them to get out of the car, one of them dryly said, "Mum, if you can tell us how this medieval town is any different from all the other medieval towns we've seen, we'll get out." Bam! Point taken. Of course, I didn’t have an answer ready. So they stayed in the car with their Game Boys while we adults toured the town on our own.

The Idea Behind This Book

That moment in Tuscany stuck with me. It made me realize just how differently kids and adults experience travel—and how traditional travel guides rarely cater to younger audiences. Years later, as my love for Iceland continued to grow, an idea took shape: Why not create something that makes kids genuinely excited about a city like Reykjavík? Something that lets them discover it through play and creativity. I wanted to create a book that not only captivates kids but also makes city trips more enjoyable for parents. A book that showcases Reykjavík the way kids love it: colorful, exciting, and full of opportunities to get involved.
